How
to use it
|
Apply
spermicide
inside and around the rim of the diaphragm, then place it deep into the
vagina, covering the cervix.

Advantages
|
Safe.
Fertility
returns immediately upon discontinued use. Can be inserted 2-3 hours
before lovemaking.
May reduce the risk of cervical cancer.

Disadvantages
|
Must
be fitted by a
health care professional. Needs prescription. Must be used each time.
Must be left in place 6-8 hours after intercourse. May become
dislodged. Some women may be allergic to spermicide, latex. Must be
replaced periodically. Can be messy. Must apply spermicide with each
new act of intercourse. May decrease spontaneity. May have an increase
in urinary tract infections. Therefore should not be used by women with
a history of frequent bladder infections.

while it's in place; your partner experiences pain during intercourse;
frequent bladder infections; soreness of the vagina; rash in the
genital area; or profuse, foul smelling or itchy discharge.
