a pregnancy by interfering with both:
1. sperm movement - the ability of the sperm to fertilize the egg
2. implantation - nesting of a fertilized egg into the lining of the

How to use it
|
Must be inserted by
a health care professional, usually at the time of a period. You may
need to rest afterwards.

Advantages
|
Requires no
attention. Fertility returns immediately upon discontinued use. Does
not interfere with lovemaking. Can be used while breast feeding and by
women who have never had a baby.

Disadvantages
|
May have an
increase risk for tubal pregnancy. Should not be used by woman have a
history of tubal pregnancy. May be expelled without knowing it.
Progesterone IUD needs to be changed yearly.

You or your partner
can be felt the string or the end of the IUD at the cervix may be with
pain; a missed or late period; a very light period; severe cramping
and/or bleeding with intercourse; fever or chills of no known reason;
or foul smelling vaginal discharge.
